Phil Durell

Having pursued a professional career in architecture, Phil turned to watercolour painting some years ago as a means of freeing himself from the rigours and discipline of measured drawings and detailing. He has painted with a number of well-known artists studying their techniques whilst developing his own distinctive style. He particularly admires the work of Edward Seago and John Yardley. Phil paints landscapes and waterscapes, but unsurprisingly he feels most at home painting scenes with buildings in and, like many other artists, loves Venice as a subject. He has ‘had a go’ at painting animals and these appear to have been very popular particularly as greeting card subjects. More recently he has experimented with acrylic media.
